ANIME EXPLAINED BY CONSTANT HOOGENBOSCH

Films from the Far East are a window for us to become acquainted with and deepen oriental culture and folklore. By uncovering layers and visual elements in anime, we gain more insight into important backgrounds that are often hidden from us in the West. Anime in all its manifestations offers such a window, which becomes larger and richer when you bring the cultural-historical backgrounds, but also mythological and folkloric references to the surface. In this lecture, cultural historian and film teacher Constant Hoogenbosch brings a series of these elements to the surface and shows that there is often much more to see than we in the West realize. Films that he will discuss in the lecture include Ghost in the Shell2: Innocence, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, The Cat Returns, Gantz, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya and Wolf Children.
The lecture lasts 2 hours
